A significant portion of funding for transportation is provided at the federal level. Work at the federal level is important to ensure priorities for transportation spending are given to investments in modes and infrastructure that will support smart growth development. Transportation Reform Act / South Coast Rail / Federal Transportation Authorization / Federal Stimulus Chairman James L. Oberstar drafted a transportation bill in June of 2009, calling for a substantial investment in the nation’s transportation infrastructure, including strong investment in public transportation and non motorized transit. House members Russ Carnahan (D-MO), Rush Holt (D-NJ), and Jay Inslee (D-WA) proposed the rider bill – The National Transportation Objectives Bill, which calls for measureable targets for reducing climate change in our transportation sector. |
