South Coast Rail

The South Coast Rail project will restore rail service to the cities of Fall River, New Bedford and others along the southeast corridor of Massachusetts. These communities, currently underserved by transit, will create transit oriented developments around the new stations. Careful land use planning has been conducted in collaboration with planning for the new lines.

Transportation Reform Act / South Coast Rail / Federal Transportation Authorization / Federal Stimulus

Communities along the planned corridor have been identified as appropriate areas for growth by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council. Investment in transit oriented development in these areas will help alleviate housing demand in the state, revitalize the economies of these smallĀ  cities and provide affordable mobility to many people in this area.
