Transportation Reform Act

In 2009, the state of Massachusetts brought previously separate transportation organizations together under a centralized department of transportation. The move was made in conjunction with several reforms and new initiatives, including the creation of a Healthy Transportation Compact and incorporation of smart growth principles into transportation policies.

The Alliance is tracking the progress of the transportation consolidation and reforms.  Highlights of the reform act include:

  • Creation of Healthy Transportation Compact

  • Creation of Office of Planning and Programming within the new DOT

  • Establishment of Regional Mobility Assistance Program
